Yoga for Kids
Children today live hectic lifestyles. I've seen many kids juggle homework, extra curricular activities, sport and social activities faster than any adult. Many of the parents' lives are equally hectic, so we usually don't stop to consider how these schedules are impacting our children. Children are less flexible, more obese and higher strung than ever before.
Children can reap numerous benefits from taking yoga classes. In many countries around the world, yoga is being offered at schools to help children with concetration, stress management and coping with peers. Yoga helps counter the pressures that our kids face by providing techniques for self-health, relaxation and inner fulfillment. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that's noncompetitive.
Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them and are better able to relate to their friends and community.
Yoga classes for children include postures suited for children,
story-telling, relaxation and breathing and basic meditation techniques.
The class also engages
children, discussing topics such as facing fears, managing stress and
