Course Description

Yoga and Mindfulness practices are powerful tools for assisting in emotional healing, self- regulation and resiliency. This module will provide participants a thorough overview of how yoga and mindfulness can impact on and heal issues related to emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, trauma, an overactive brain, and negative wiring.

Curriculum

This course includes theory, research, and practice in 8 distinct areas:

  1. how psychology categorizes Psychiatric Disorders
  2. the definition and symptoms of common psychiatric disorders
  3. common steps / stages of a clinical intervention
  4. active listening and interviewing skills for the Peer Counselor
  5. understanding affective neuroscience, stress, and Mental Health,
  6. understanding an Integrative Model of yoga and psychology
  7. a basic overview of theories of human development, personality, and various cultural & societal influences on development
  8. opportunities for clinical practice and application inclusive of understanding referral and ethical guidelines for the yoga therapist peer counselor.

This training will include theory, research and experiential activities. Participants will also be encouraged to participate in compassionate self-care techniques as part of their understanding of yoga and mental health. 

Prerequisites for Application

  1. Completed a 200-hour teacher training with at least one year of teaching experience
  2. If you have taken your 200-hour teacher training from another tradition (not Integral Yoga), you are encouraged to take a minimum of 6 classes at an Integral Yoga centre or affiliate.
  3. Knowledge of pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Karma Yoga as taught within the Integral Yoga tradition. (Note: Hersha Yoga can provide a one-day workshop at an additional cost for those needing the required additional learning)
